Tuesday Night Lecture with Frank Boyden, Sept. 1, 2009

SJSU Art & Design Department’s Tuesday Night Lecture presents Frank Boyden: Making a Living in the Land of the Dead

Internationally-known artist Frank Boyden works with ceramics, prints, sculpture, public art works, and other genres. With wit, charm, sarcasm, and bit of vulgarity, the artist mocks contemporary society, current events, and the general plight of humanity. Mr. Boyden has also recently been awarded the winner of the Ray Trayle Print Prize for 2009. From his website: The Print Prize Committee has selected Frank for many reasons… for his compelling visual conscience regarding human nature, ecology and the role of the artist as a singular voice of the collective soul. He also has an ability to discover and convey great beauty with haunting overtones. He has fostered significant artistic enterprises and mentored emerging artists. His prints are beautiful, edgy and inspiring. Above all, Frank is unafraid of taking risks as a visual artist and as an artist of conscience. He reflects the same spirit of generosity that we find in Ray Trayle. It is a generosity for which the world is hungry, a generosity that we celebrate with this prize.

Tuesday Night Lectures are held in ART room #133 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
