Black Box Gallery of Portland, Oregon announces their call for Field Work: Landscape and Architecture

Theme: This exhibition will examine contemporary landscape and architectural photography. What is the process and diversity of observation, interpretation and documentation of this genre? How do we look for and create compelling, significant and relevant work that engages the language, craft and tradition of photography?

Juror: Ethan Jackson is a visual artist working in optical installation, photographic and interactive media.  He received his MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995.  In his work he explores interests in such subjects as the various aspects of landscape representation and the notion of ‘place’.  He is based in Portland, Oregon.

Rules/Guidelines: Black Box will provide all framing, matting and printing for their exhibitions. The photographers who are selected into the exhibition will provide a high resolution Tiff file for our gallery to print for the exhibition. Each exhibition will have 20 photographers included by the juror. Black Box covers all printing and framing costs.

They have 18” x 24” black frames. Their white mats are pre cut for 13” x 19”, 13” x 13” and 13” x 17” prints. They print on an Epson Stylus Pro archival ink jet printer, on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper, in a color-calibrated environment.

All exhibition prints will be kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion for the photographer, unless the photographer makes other arrangements. This will allow the gallery to further promote our photographers and exhibitions to collectors, curators, critics and to the general public. Entry fee.

Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, 50% goes to the photographer.

Deadline: April 16th, 2011
