Berkeley Art Center (CA), Call for San Francisco Bay Area Artists, Thread Heads: New Bay Area Fiber Art

Berkeley Art Center (CA), Call for San Francisco Bay Area Artists*, Thread Heads: New Bay Area Fiber Art

Deadline: August 20th, 2017

From their call: Artists 18 years old and over who live and/or work in the *nine San Francisco Bay Area counties are eligible to apply. This exhibit is open to all fiber art. For the purposes of this exhibition, fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn. It focuses on the materials and on the process as part of the works’ significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value over utility. Techniques such as quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, weaving, and felting are welcome as long as the final work communicates a message, emotion or meaning beyond just the literal meaning of the object.

Juried by three practicing textile artists who also have extensive curatorial experience: Marion Coleman, Karen Hampton, and Tali Weinburg.

You are invited to submit up to 5 works (no more than 2 images per piece) of your original artwork completed within the past five years. All submitted work must be available for the exhibition dates stated above. Artists are responsible for in-person deliveries and pick-up. We will not accept shipped artwork.

If you have questions please contact Ann Trinca, Gallery Director or 510-644-6893.

Exhibition Dates: October 14th – November 25th, 2017
