Bullseye Glass (OR), International Call for Entries: Emerge 2018
Deadline: February 23rd, 2018
Emerge 2018 is the tenth juried kiln-glass exhibition for emerging artists sponsored by Bullseye Glass Company, a manufacturer of colored glass for art and architecture with worldwide distribution and a strong commitment to education and promotion of glass art. Hosted at Bullseye Projects in Portland’s Pearl District, this biennial exhibition recognizes students and early-career artists who are rising through the ranks of kilnformed studio glass but are not yet represented by major commercial galleries.
Emerge 2018 offers $22,000 in prizes in the form of Bullseye gift cards or credit, recognition at an awards ceremony, and representation in a full-color exhibition catalog with photos, bios, and artist statements. Selected finalists will be included in Emerge/Evolve 2018, a national touring exhibition.
Students and artists who are not represented by major galleries are encouraged to apply. Makers who started working in kiln-glass more than 15 years ago (including studies in school) are not eligible to compete in Emerge 2018. Works will be judged on excellence of craftsmanship, design, and creativity, and must be made of Bullseye glasses.

Entrant Qualifications: The competition is open to all emerging artists working with Bullseye glass in some kilnforming or kilncasting method. For this competition, you are an “emerging artist” if you started working in kiln-glass less than 15 years ago (including studies in school), you are in the early to intermediate stage of your career and, at the date of application, your work in glass has not been represented by a commercial gallery at a major international art or design fair (such as Sculpture, Object, Functional Art or SOFA in the USA). Exceptions: you may be eligible if your work was shown to promote a non-profit organization, or a co-op gallery, at an international art or design fair.
Material Qualifications: All art glass used in submitted works must be Bullseye glass. Kilnformed glass must be the focus of each submitted work. A work in which the focus is on kilnformed elements, but incorporates additional glass techniques, such as torchwork and roll-up, will be accepted. Mixed-media work will be accepted as long as kiln-glass is the focus of the work. Artwork must have been created since January 1, 2016. No submitted piece of artwork may weigh more than 90 pounds (41 kg). Works must be available for exhibition in Portland, Oregon, from June through October 2018, and subsequent venues until September 2019.
