College of Southern Idaho, Call for Applicants: Artist in Residence – Emphasis in Ceramics and Sculpture

The College of Southern Idaho seeks a dynamic, community minded artist capable of delivering high quality instruction in the visual arts, and engaging the community around art making for a 1 year appointment as Artist in Residence. This position will present an opportunity to deliver college level visual art instruction, complete and document a significant art project, and participate in free professional development centered around best practices in education. The artist in residence will be expected to teach sections of 3-D art courses in Ceramics and Sculpture. The artist will also be expected to complete and document a significant art project centered around student learning, and/or community engagement while in residence at the college. Because of the instructional and project based nature of this job, the artist in residence will be expected to show strength both as an instructor and in developing and maintaining positive collaborative relationships among faculty members, students, and community artists. As a condition of the position, the artist in residence will be provided with housing in college apartments including utilities and internet access, as well the opportunity to develop their teaching craft through institutional professional development in best teaching practices.
Essential Functions (partial list) :
- Deliver instruction in 3D visual art courses including Ceramics and Sculpture.
- In collaboration with faculty, students, and community artists; conceive, design, and complete a significant art project centered on student learning and/or community engagement.
- Participate in the effective teaching workshop and related teaching seminars throughout the academic year.
- Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours as determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment.
Note: $30,000 with housing provided, also includes a generous benefits package.
This position will constitute a 10 month contract from August 1st, 2019 – May 3rd, 2020. All course delivery will happen during the regular academic cycle, and all work related to executing and documenting the large project portion of the position should be completed within the 10 month period. Working conditions will include an apartment provided by the college with utilities and internet access included. Access to shared instructional art studios will be made available outside of instructional time. Access to college grounds and facilities may also be available as needed.
