Favorite resource sites

Thank you to everyone who has sent wonderful messages of support and gratitude to me. I was in tears reading how much this little site has helped so many of you in your artistic ventures. I had no idea…

Some asked if I could list favorite resource sites I would consistently go to and check out calls. Staff would also send me calls they had seen or heard of to screen and check out as well but a majority of the time was good old fashioned digging through calls from some favorite sites. I would still check the fees (free was best but if it was too expensive, it didn’t get listed—unless the juror was someone of note that you might want them to see your work), check the website (does it work? is the call actually listed and up to date?), check their past exhibitions (quality of work, quality of past exhibition presentation), and listen to my audience. If someone wrote and told me they had a bad experience or if the gallery space was never open even though the work was up, or if I or any of the staff had a negative experience with a place, I would not post them again. Essentially, the calls were curated. I had always maintained that I would only post the call if we asked ourselves the question “would we want this on our own artist resume?” given the type of artwork called for.

So here are some of my favorite go-to resources I would glean calls from (and like BAAG, they are all FREE!!):

Thank you for your years of postings! I’m a poet, not even a visual artist, but I appreciated your curation immensely.

Let me join in the chorus of thanks yous. I have been regularly checking your site for over a year now to assist my artist son in finding appropriate opportunities. It has been invaluable in condensing so many sites into one daily check. Don’t know what we will do without you! Working artists don’t have time to look up so many individual sites to check for calls….it is overwhelming without your help!

  3. Thank you, Thank you !!!!
You are giving to an idea of being part of an artist community a face. Your posts were / are very much appreciated, no matter if I were / am in the US or traveling abroad.
    I remain thankful!
All my best for new beginnings, and good luck with your art!
