Kala Art Institute (CA), Call for Proposals & Event Submissions: Days of Action

Deadline: January 28th, 2017

Kala’s Days of Action is a counter narrative to Trump’s one hundred day plan. This is a call to artists, performance artists, thinkers and writers to propose gestures that can be carried out using Kala’s gallery, community space or large project space with the support of the Kala staff and interns. Whereas the president elect’s 100 Days will seek to dismantle restrictions that protect our environment, public education, health, and jeopardize unprotected minority groups, Kala’s Days of Action is a forum for resistance, an artistic coming together, an exercise in endurance, a call to all bodies that stand against bigotry, xenophobia, racism, sexism, and the destruction of our environment to act together.

We seek action proposals and event submissions for readings, panels, screenings, workshops, and happenings that will occur concurrent with Kala’s Print Public exhibition, January 19th – March 25th, 2017.

About Kala: Founded in 1974, by Archana Horsting and Yuzo Nakano, as an international residency program rooted in the local community and a forum for ideas, Kala Art Institute encourages artistic experimentation. We are proud of Kala’s progress over four decades from a garage studio with one etching press and a single hot plate to a 15,200 sq. ft. facility in the historic West Berkeley Heinz building. Kala has grown steadily in the breath of its offerings and in the size of its operation, yet remains true to its mission to be a workshop of ideas and to engage the community through exhibitions, education, and public programs.
