MarinMOCA (CA), National Call for Entries, Renegade Fiber: 2017 Summer National Juried Exhibition
Deadline: April 21st, 2017, midnight PST
From their call: Open to all U.S. resident artists 18 and over. You are invited to submit up to 5 digital images of your original artwork completed in the past five years, not previously shown in a MarinMOCA or Artists of MarinMOCA exhibit. This exhibit is open to all fiber art. For the purposes of this exhibition, fiber art is defined as artwork that uses natural or synthetic pliable elements as a major material, and emphasizes art over craft. This exhibition encourages fiber art submissions that further the distance between traditional woven art (tapestries, weavings) and their work through unique or novel approaches in technique, material, or subject matter. We encourage the rebels, rogues and renegades of fiber art whose work can be found at the very edge of the genre. Entry fee.
Juror: Richard Elliott is Associate Professor and former program chair in the Textiles program at California College of the Arts. He has taught Introduction to Textiles, Textile Design, Dyeing and Screen Printing, Digital Textile Printing, Fabric Manipulation, and Fiber Sculpture since 1999. His own work involves image transfer and digital processes onto paper, fabric, and sausage casings, investigating the abstract beauty of cellular structures, systems, and patterns hidden within the human body.
Size Limitations: 2D artwork: 84in (7ft) height, 72in (6ft) width framed; total weight with frame not to exceed 70 pounds. 3D artwork: 84in (7ft) height, 72in (6ft) width, 36in (3ft) depth, not to exceed 70 pounds (floor installation).
Awards: First Place: $500.00 Second Place: $300.00 Third Place: $100.00 Non-monetary Honorable Mention awards may be given at Juror’s discretion.
