MidPen Housing (Sunnyvale, CA), Regional Call for Artists: Onizuka Crossing Mural
Deadline: November 20th, 2016
MidPen Housing is seeking proposals to create a mural on a prominent communal area (the community room) on the first floor of the building. This location will be highly visible to pedestrian traffic along E. Maude Avenue, Sunnyvale, Calif. They are most interested in commissioning a work of art that that is meaningful in the context of its time and place and one that resonates with the members of the Onizuka Crossing community. They are open to a variety of mediums and techniques provided that the artwork is durable and vandal resistant. Most importantly, they require the art to have shared ownership between the artist and residents of the building. They look forward to hearing creative ideas on how to incorporate participation from the residents, (i.e. a mural with residents painting a small portion) but expect the majority of the work to be created by the artist. The artist must direct the resident participation portion of the art in cooperation with MidPen Housing Corporation staff.
Proposed Budget: The total budget range for this artwork is approximately $15,000 including installation. Please submit an itemized budget for the proposed project, including costs of each portion of the work, as well as the artist’s fee.
