Northern Illinois University Art Museum, National Call for Artists: Exploring Aspects of War In and Through the Visual Arts

As an extension of the Northern Illinois University Art Museum’s mission to present contemporary art through the platform of thematic exhibitions, the Art Museum is requesting calls for entries for its 2019 -2020 exhibition calendar.

Exhibition Theme:The Visual Arts have served in all cultures and periods to document, motivate, memorialize, facilitate healing, critique and protest military action.

Exploring Aspects of War in and Through the Visual Arts considers views on war and military conflict from the perspective of the homefront, the battlefield and back home again.

Selection process: Works will be selected from a national call for entry, by invitation and co-curated by NIU Art Museum staff members and the Exhibition Advisory Committee.

Eligibility: The NIU Art Museum is currently accepting submissions in all media. This call is open to all artists in the United States 18 years of age or older.

Two people must be able to handle and install the submitted artwork which must also fit through a single door (36” wide x 84” tall).
