Pacific Rim Sculptors (CA), Call for San Francisco Bay Area Artists: “Room for Thought”

Deadline: February 12th, 2018

From their call: Pacific Rim Sculptors issues a call for entries for “Room for Thought”, a juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture by artists living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Theme– “Room for Thought”   Art objects usually draw attention to their presence, yet it is often the space surrounding an artwork or the negative spaces within it that are most meaningful for contemplation. These spaces affect our thoughts, emotions, and behavior, thus imbuing the art-and-space with deeply personal meaning. This show calls for pieces that in some way activate or draw attention to the space around or within the artworks as much as they draw attention to the physical pieces. Most importantly, how do you interpret “Room for Thought” and its expression in your art? Examples include artworks with such striking emotional impact that viewers in the surrounding space become silent with revery, or perhaps giddy with joyful interaction; or artworks that skillfully use negative space to achieve a sense of balance — or perhaps dynamic imbalance; or artworks that play with the viewer’s expectations of order and structure. Or perhaps “Room for Thought” is simply your personal creative space, and your artwork is what emerges from it.

Juror: Jack Fischer of Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco, CA, who may, at his discretion, examine the submitters listed website or social media site and ask to view additional works.

Venue: SPACE 151 is a large and versatile space of the Levy Architectural firm, located at 151 Potrero Avenue in San Francisco, near Jack Fischer Gallery, Catharine Clarke Gallery, Hosfelt Gallery, Patricia Sweetow Gallery, and more in the new arts area in San Francisco’s Mission District.
