Silicon Valley Creates and San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (CA), Request for Proposals, San Francisco Bay Area Artists: Artist-in-Residence at Santa Clara’s Valley Medical Center’s Women & Children’s Hospital Wing

Deadline: February 25th, 2018

From their call: Silicon Valley Creates (SV Creates) and the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles is seeking proposals for a new project based, Artist-in-Residence program at Santa Clara’s Valley Medical Center’s (VMC) Women & Children’s hospital wing. This newly renovated facility dedicated to pediatric, newborn and women’s health is seeking a resident artist to develop a project that takes inspiration from the stories of patients, staff and visitors at the new Women & Children’s Center at VMC, our county’s ‘safety net’ hospital.

The project will be completed when the final artwork is installed in the hospital, allowing for continued public access.

Project Budget: Total Project budget to include artist’s fee: $9,000

Site Considerations: Sites under consideration for the installation of the completed artwork include, but may not be limited to: family rooms, community seating/waiting areas, and hallway seating “nooks”.  Consideration of the hospital setting, family usage, gathering space and safety is important while ensuring a vision that inspires curiosity and engagement.

Intended Audiences: This Artist-in-Residence will serve the VMC community, including in- and out-patients, their families and visitors, and hospital staff, through the creative process, the development of a transformational work of art and into the future with the remaining artwork, to be on view in the Women & Children’s Wing of VMC.

Selection Criteria: This RFP is open to artists who are living/working in the San Francisco Bay Area.
