The Artery (CA), Call for California Ceramic Artists: California Clay Competition and Exhibition 2020

The Artery, home of the Artists’ Cooperative of Davis, has sponsored the California Clay Competition since 1990 to give California ceramic artists an opportunity to exhibit their work during the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art established by Natsoulas Gallery. Going on for over 30 years, this has become the ultimate ceramic weekend in Davis for established & emerging artists, students, teachers, patrons & art lovers filled with lectures and demonstrations by contemporary ceramic artists. Other pop-up venues include numerous regional Universities and Colleges which exhibit the work of their ceramic students and instructors.
The CCACA headquarters is located a few blocks away from the Artery at the John Natsoulas Gallery. Along with the CCC show at the Artery, many area galleries will hold artists’ receptions for ceramics exhibits on the opening evening of Friday May 1st, 2020, including the Natsoulas Gallery’s “Thirty Ceramic Sculptors”.
Juror: Scott Parady got his MFA from Penn State University and currently is a ceramics professor at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, CA.
Eligibility & sales: The competition is open to all living California artists. Works accepted must be for sale, available for the duration of the exhibit, and made within the last two years. The Artery retains a 50% commission from all sales.
Medium: Clay must be the primary medium. Works may be functional or sculptural. Assembled works must fit through a standard doorframe and weigh no more than can easily be handled by two people. All artwork must be presented and ready for display. Wall pieces must include all mounting hardware; wire and/or cleats preferred.
Awards: Monetary and gift awards will be announced at the opening reception.
